Wilmington marked the second anniversary of Tropical Storm Irene and the flooding that nearly destroyed the village with a day of remembrance. Wilmington, like many other places in Vermont, was still recovering economically and physically. Gov. Peter Shumlin spoke at Memorial Hall about the successes of the ongoing recovery, and toured Dot’s Restaurant, which was under reconstruction. The downtown eatery became a symbol both of the destruction caused by the flood and of the town’s determination to rebuild better than before.
