Wilmington received a $300,000 federal community block grant to extend a West Main Street sidewalk, thanks to the efforts of economic development specialist Gretchen Havreluk. The sidewalk extension was intended to improve pedestrian safety (eliminating a spot in the village where pedestrians had to walk along the road between traffic and a stone retaining wall) and improve pedestrian access to several downtown businesses. Havreluk said the sidewalk would also benefit all downtown businesses by creating a more walkable village.
