The state of Vermont gave shoppers a tax-free weekend on purchases up to $2,000. The tax holiday applied not only to items purchased in Vermont, but also goods purchased from out-of-state retailers. The tax holiday was introduced by Gov. Jim Douglas as part of an economic stimulus package at the end of the legislative session.
The Vermont Department of Taxes closed Poncho’s Wreck and Bistro for failure to pay state retail sales taxes.
