According to a Tri-town Economic Development Committee survey, despite valley towns’ reputation as “rich ski towns,” the numbers suggested that valley residents were at a significant economic disadvantage. According to the report, the valley had high unemployment compared to the rest of Vermont and, for those employed, an average annual wage nearly $10,000 lower than the statewide average. In addition to the income disadvantages, housing prices in the valley were higher than the state average.
