After Searsburg completed its first appraisal in a decade, local officials were flabbergasted to learn that value of the grand list had nearly doubled. One homeowner complained that his house, valued at $73,000 in 1999, was now valued at $153,700, an increase of $80,700. The property owner grieved his taxes and reduced the value by $12,000.
