Wilmington town officials said that Tropical Storm Irene may have done more damage along the South Main Street river bank than had initially been suspected. A retaining wall under some South Main Street buildings had collapsed, and an inspection of the damage revealed that soil had been scoured out, undermining the river bank, with some voids perhaps as far back as South Main Street. At least two business owners were affected. Town Manager Scott Murphy said they would likely be eligible for emergency Community Development Block Grant funding.
