FAIRLEE - Twin Valley Middle High School students recently attended the Vermont OVX/VKAT Youth Leadership Summit at Lake Morey as part of their participation in the Vermont Kids Against Tobacco Program, which is sponsored locally by the Deerfield Valley Community Partnership.
The Vermont Department of Health Tobacco Control Program has partnered with the Vermont Agency of Education since 2016 to support local high school chapters of Our Voices Xposed and middle school chapters of Vermont Kids Against Tobacco, both of which are helping to end tobacco’s influence on youth. The program engages youth in how the tobacco industry targets young people and provides them with the platform to educate others in their community as a powerful strategy to break free from tobacco and nicotine’s influence. Group members educate peers, community members, and decision makers on the tactics used by the tobacco industry, encourage healthy choices among peers, work to reduce tobacco and nicotine use, and change social norms.
