GERMANY - In 1933, Resi Strauss was working as a nanny in Fulda, Germany, when, in the middle of the night, there was a knock on the door. It was the Sturmabteilung, or SA, also known as the Brownshirts, and they were looking for the father of the children Resi was looking after. Told that the man of the house was away on business in Switzerland, the SA entered the home and searched it, and then told Resi they’d be back.
