Shine a light this Hanukkah

A menorah with nine branches, known as a chanukiah, is used during Hanukkah.

BRATTLEBORO - The Brattleboro Area Jewish Community’s program Shine A Light for Social Justice returns for the fifth year in a row with a mix of in-person and online events bringing light to eight social justice issues. Every night from Sunday, December 18, to Sunday, December 25, whether in-person or not, the BAJC Zoom room will be open for candle lighting at 5:30 pm with Rabbi Amita.
BAJC will kick off their Hanukkah celebrations with an LGBTQ+ Dance Party. Those who feel Pride about who they are, if are an ally, love homemade latkes or jelly donuts or dancing to a curated Hanukkah  playlist, BAJC will see them at Centre Congregational Church on Sunday, December 18, at 5:30 pm.
On the second night, Monday, December 19, join BAJC at Everyone’s Books, where they’re kindling the Hanukkah lights for  environmental justice.
On Tuesday, December 20, relax at home and Zoom in for candle lighting and a vibrant discussion of women’s equality. Wednesday, December 21, finds BAJC at the Root Social Justice Center at 28 Williams Street with programming around the concerns of BIPOC - Black, Indigenous, people of color.
On Thursday, December 22, meet at the cafe at the Brattleboro Food Co-op to shine light on issues of economic security.
On the sixth night of Hanukkah, Friday, December 23, please join at BAJC’s synagogue, 151 Greenleaf Street, for a potluck Shabbat dinner embracing religious freedom.  Bring a Chanukiah - menorah - and candles to add to the light of community. BAJC welcomes latkes or other vegetarian dishes to share. The jelly donuts will be provided.
The seventh night of Hanukkah will be at Yalla Vermont, 80 Main Street, focused on issues of immigrant justice, and on the final night, Sunday, December 25, meet on Zoom; the topic will be health care.
