Rabbi, former policy advisor discusses environment

Rabbi Michael M. Cohen

BENNINGTON - Join Congregation Beth El for a three-part series on the timely topic of Judaism and the environment with Rabbi Michael M. Cohen. The Torah is full of timeless environmental messages and guidance.  During these sessions, participants will explore many of them. In the climate crisis era, some would say understanding and listening to what the Torah and Judaism have to teach about the environment is essential.
Each part of the series will take place on Thursdays from 7 to 8 pm. Part one will take place November 17, part two on December 22, and part three on January 19. All three parts will take place in Congregation Beth El’s social hall, 107 Adams Street. To attend via Zoom email Susan at the office for the Zoom link at cbevtoffice@gmail.com.
Rabbi Cohen, interim rabbi at Congregation Beth El, is a faculty member of the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies and Bennington College. He teaches courses on conflict resolution, the Bible, and the environment.
Rabbi Cohen has been a policy advisor to the Office of the Special Envoy for Middle East Peace, US Department of State; and a speechwriter adviser to the Office of the White House Speechwriters. He was recently named by Sen. Patrick  Leahy to the advisory board of the Partnership for Peace of USAID, established by Congress. Rabbi Cohen, the rabbi emeritus of the Israel Congregation in Manchester Center, is the author of numerous articles that have appeared in the Middle East and the United States. He has a monthly commentary of the Torah reading of the week in the Jerusalem Post as well as a regular column in the Jerusalem Post called “Letter from America.”
