DEERFIELD VALLEY - A number of Memorial Day celebrations were held around the valley on Monday. The annual Memorial Day ceremony returned to Memorial Hall in Wilmington. The history of Memorial Day was the theme. As part of the program, members of the Deerfield Valley Lions Club and Rotary Club of the Deerfield Valley were recognized with the American Legion Citizenship Award for their charitable work in the community. In Whitingham, the color guard stood in salute during the dedication of a new memorial in honor of the men and women who served in recent conflicts, including Lebanon, Grenada, Panama, the Gulf Wars, and the war on terrorism. The new memorial joined the other memorials at the park on Town Hill.
