Love is proof of our faith: “Beloved, since God loves us so much, we also ought to love one another.”

Marcia Dorey

In his second letter to the church, John, who became the leader of the church in Jerusalem, reminds us, “Beloved, since God loves us so much, we also ought to love one another.” In this holy season, both Hanukkah and Christmastide, John seeks to remind us that the ability to love is an authentication of our faith. In the recent edition of Christian Century, editor Martin Marty’s editorial reminds us that “love has nothing to do with pardon or forgiveness, it only loves and loves and loves.”
