Long-time Wilmington Town Clerk Susie Haughwout moves on 


Susie Haughwout holds an old land record book in this 2013 file photo. She recently retired from her position after 25 years. Her quick thinking and decisive actions during Tropical Storm Irene saved the town’s historic records from rising floodwaters.

WILMINGTON - Two weeks into retirement, former Wilmington Town Clerk Susie Haughwout says she’s just crawled out from under a seemingly endless pile of paperwork. “There’s a little more to retirement than I expected,” she says. “There’s a lot of paperwork involved.” 
She says that in addition to navigating the administrative side of retirement, she and her husband Mark Haughwout, who retired in May, are in the process of adjusting to new social-distancing-related routines.
