Local contributes to Western firefighting

ESTACADA, OR — Dover native Marissa Edwards says the work she’s currently doing, fighting wildland fires, is not glamorous, but it is important and can be extremely demanding.
Edwards, who got her start in forest work with the Vermont Youth Conservation Corps doing trail work while she was studying at UVM, moved west in 2016, when she joined the Texas Conservation Corps and was based in Austin. Later, in Austin, she worked on the Lake Travis Fire Rescue wildfire prevention crew, where she assisted with fuel reduction projects and prescribed burns.
