Aging in Place: People with a very high emotional quotient are the true gift to the senior community

What role does emotional intelligence play in the process of aging well?  Since I am living right in the middle of a pool of research subjects in this facility, I have but to look around for answers.
Back in the 1990s, psychologist Daniel Goleman wrote the seminal book on the subject of EQ, one’s emotional quotient (as opposed to IQ, intelligence quotient).  He described it as “the ability to identify, assess, and control one’s own emotions, the emotions of others and of groups.”
