Weighting study could relieve inequity burden

Last week Dover Selectboard and River Valleys school board members decided to sponsor a lobbying effort to help shepherd changes to Vermont’s education funding formulas through the Legislature.
The changes have to do specifically with how much “weight” the state gives certain factors, such as poverty, small or rural, and language. In theory, the more weight one of the factors is given, the more resources (read: dollars) a school district should receive to help offset the relative disadvantage, compared to other districts around Vermont.
