Lush and memorable melodies at area concert
MARLBORO- Marlboro College’s Alumni Speaker Series presents an evening of music with award-winning composer and pianist Felix Jarrar on Friday, March 6. Jarrar and his collaborators, Savannah Greene (soprano), Ryan Allais (tenor), and Miguel Vasquez (baritone), will perform a recital of his art songs for voice and piano, featuring the world premiere of his cycle “The Ulster County Songbook.”
Brooklyn-based composer and pianist Jarrar has performed at diverse venues. As a composer, his works have been performed internationally by members of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and Chorus, the Atlantic Music Festival Orchestra, and the duo Unassisted Fold. His compositions have been praised as “experimental and beautifully composed” (Broadway World) with “lush and memorable melodies” (Operawire).
Jarrar completed his bachelor’s degree in music at Marlboro College, with a Plan of Concentration on Franz Liszt and the composition and production of a chamber opera based on Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Fall of the House of Usher.” He received his Master of Music degree from Brooklyn College, primarily studying with Wang Jie, Tania León, and Jason Eckardt while holding the prestigious graduate fellowship for assisting ConTempo, Ursula Oppens’ contemporary ensemble in the conservatory.
The concert will take place at 7 pm in Ragle Hall, Serkin Center for the Performing Arts, and is free and open to the public.
