Celebrate with UMass Percussion Ensemble

BRATTLEBORO- Celebrate Leap Day with the UMass Percussion Ensemble, in concert at the Brattleboro Museum & Art Center  Saturday, February 29, at 7 pm.
Admission is $5 at brattleboromusem.org or at the door, free for BMAC members and youth 18 and under. The concert will be followed by a reception with the performers.
The program will feature works by Steve Reich, Nebojsa Zivkovic, and Toru Takemitsu, as well as newer, less frequently performed compositions by Christopher Dean and Viet Cuong. The UMass Percussion Ensemble consists of 19 undergraduate and graduate percussion students from UMass Amherst, directed by Ayano Kataoka.
Kataoka is a percussionist and marimbist known for her dynamic technique as well as the elegance and artistry she brings to her performances. A leading proponent of contemporary repertoire, Kataoka has participated in several consortia to commission new works for solo marimba or chamber ensemble. She was the first percussionist to be chosen for the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s Chamber Music Society Two.
