What happened to the spots on the MOOver buses?

WILMINGTON– Why is the MOOver using large, unspotted buses on Route 100 these days? The answer is that the company has moved two large transit-style buses from its Rockingham fleet to Wilmington in order to put miles on them to reach the end of their federally-defined useful life. The buses, rear-engine Internationals, need to put several hundred thousand miles apiece on them to qualify for retirement.
The buses were purchased long before the MOOver became involved with The Curren, and were being used in Rockingham on a pace that would never qualify them for retirement, so they were moved to Wilmington where they can be used every day.
Why are they white? They have been stripped of their Current vinyl decal pattern and will be spotted later this summer when a grant hopefully becomes available to spot all 21 Current buses as part of the company’s rebranding effort. Right now, the priority is spotting five new buses purchased last year.
The only route at the MOOver that was cut is the second Brattleboro bus that went to BUHS every school day. Those hours are being used to strip buses and will be reimbursed by CARES Act funding.
These buses are great for social distancing. They have a second entry door located in the middle of the vehicle so that riders can board without passing by the driver. There is also plenty of room once inside to provide social distancing space between riders.
Keep in touch with the MOOver via its Facebook page, websites (www.crtransit.org or www.moover.com), or sign up for text alerts on the Transit app.
