Veterans Day events

Dover, Readsboro activities
DEERFIELD VALLEY- On Saturday and Sunday, November 10 and 11, the Dover Historical Society Museum and the Living History Association gallery, located in the same building, will be open to the public from 10 am to 3 pm as part of a special observance of Veteran’s Day. This open house features many displays of several wars including local residents who fought in World War I. Most impressive is the inclusion in the display of items related to World War I aviation provided by the Bond family.
Over the years the building’s upgrade and care, as well as much of the military collection from World War II, and the post-war period, were provided by Herbert Childs who recently died. His enthusiasm for the well-being of the museum is much missed. Across the street at the Congregational Church a special ceremony will be held honoring two local veterans, each of whom will be presented with a handmade quilt in honor of their service.
Farther south on Route 100 in Readsboro, Walter Case Post of the American Legion, with the help of some local schoolchildren, will conduct a ceremony at the town’s veterans monument on Main Street on November 11 at 6:30 pm. Directly across the street, the Readsboro Historical Society will be open both before and after the event at the monument. They have exhibited artifacts and photos of local World War I veterans from the collections of Post 15, the Living History Association, and the Readsboro Historical Society. This special exhibit has been on display all summer.
