Good ol’-fashioned fun on the farm

BRATTLEBORO- Retreat Farm is heating up February break. With adult and family snowshoe hikes, campfires, face painting, Abenaki storytelling, and sheep shearing demonstrations, the farm is the perfect venue to help stave off the cold weather blues.
The Winter Playground festivities kick off on Saturday, February 16, with a community campfire featuring bread on a stick and homemade vanilla bean marshmallows. After, head over to the barn to visit the animals, get face-painted, and enjoy the indoor heated play spaces. Time a visit to experience the cultural history of the native Abenaki tribe as storyteller Willow Greene shares stories, artifacts, and songs in the community room from 2 to 3pm.
Later in the week, get the whole family exploring the outdoors and learning new skills with a family snowshoe adventure complete with a fire-side lunch. Explore the farm at night with two adult-only evening snowshoe events followed by chocolate charcuteries and libations around the fire, courtesy of Tavernier Chocolates and Saxtons River Distillery. Snowshoes are available for children and adults.
The celebration culminates with the Ice Fishing Derby on the Retreat Meadows on Saturday, February 23. The events promise to deliver a fun-filled day on the ice for all ages.
The Children’s Farm and Forest will be open Saturday, February 16, through Saturday, February 23, from 10 am to 4 pm. Admission is $8 adults, $6 children and seniors, and  under 2 free.
