Fun month at the library

NEWFANE- The Moore Free Library is hosting a number of events during the month of Janauary.
On Thursday, January 9, at 6 pm, learn about seed saving with Toni Kessler of West River Seeds. She will be presenting on the importance of seed saving for watershed. Come hear about why people need to save seeds, how to do it, and how to be a part of saving seeds. Bring seeds to swap.
On Saturday, January 11, the  Nuts & Bolts of Local Government series continues from 3:30 to 5 pm. This monthly series will help explain who does what in government. Each workshop will focus on a different aspect of state or local government.  Confused about the many different school districts, mergers, boards, and modified unions? Wondering how to read that school budget? Curious about the education tax on a  property tax bill? Come and hear Ann Manwaring (former state representative for Wilmington, Halifax, and Whitingham) and Commons reporter Olga Peters explain what it’s all about.
On Saturday, January 18, from 11 am to 12:30 pm, residents can visit with Rep. Emily Long.  Chat with Long and learn about what the Vermont Legislature is doing, has done, and plans to do. All voters in Windham-5 are welcome.
On Saturday, January 25, at 11 am, join author and gardener Celeste Longacre for a PowerPoint presentation on planning for spring gardening. This 130-plus photographic display details most aspects for a home plot, including how to prepare the soil, adding soil amendments, and companion planting for fewer bugs.
On Saturday, January 25, from 1 to 3 pm, enjoy the reception for January’s art show. The Crowell Gallery presents “Bricolage”:  construction or creation from a diverse range of available things, something constructed or created from what is at hand. The word suggests collage, the medium of Jim Tober and Carole Hendrickson’s artwork.  The Crowell Gallery is pleased to show the work of two educators whose love of creative reconstruction has cohabited with a life of academia, and has come to the fore in their combined exhibit this January.
Every Thursday from 10:30 to 11 am is Children’s Story Time. Join themed stories and more. Geared toward children ages 0 to 5, siblings and older kids are welcome. This is a great way to meet other parents of young children.
Every Friday from 9:30 am to noon, an art group meets in the Crowell Gallery for a  self-guided tour. All mediums and levels of art experience welcome. Please contact Alice Freeman, drimbob45@gmail.com or (802) 365-7542 before attending.
