Clean up on Green Up
Green Up Day in Jacksonville and Whitingham
WHITINGHAM- Spring has arrived and with it, Vermont’s annual Green Up Day. The first Saturday in May many towns throughout Vermont will receive a spring cleaning. Jacksonville and Whitingham volunteers should meet at the Town Hill playground Saturday, May 5, at 9 am, to select an area to green up.
This community event is a great family activity. It not only introduces neighbors and townspeople but also teaches children to take pride in their town. Kickoff begins with doughnuts and coffee. After the hard work of greening up, volunteers will enjoy a barbecue lunch provided by the Lions Club. Garbage bags will be provided. Volunteers should dress in work clothes and bring gloves. Call Aysha or Todd at (802) 368-2807 for more information or to suggest areas in need of greening up.
Green Up Day in the West River community
TOWNSHEND- West River Valley community members are invited to the Green Up Day celebration, to be held Saturday, May 5, at the Townshend Commons starting at 12 pm, and lasting until 3. In case of foul weather it will be held at the Townshend Town Hall.
The event is a co-sponsored community celebration for the West River Valley communities of Newfane, Brookline, Townshend, Wardsboro, and Jamaica.
There will be live music and a pig roast prepared by Jim Westbrook, of CherryRail Farm, along with vegetarian options. Organizers ask that each attendee bring a potluck of side dishes and desserts, as well as a chair. All other items will be provided.
