Blessing of the animals set for Sunday

WILMINGTON- On Sunday, October 7, St. Mary’s in the Mountains Episcopal Church, 13 East Main Street, is hosting a blessing of the animals service.  All who live with, care for or love any four-legged, two-legged, hooved, furred, finned, feathered or other animal companions are invited to join in a celebration in what has become a joyous annual event.
The red doors of St. Mary’s will open to invite neighbors and friends to join in a prayerful and musical service.  Animal family members and companions are also invited to the service.
The service will include readings and a homily, all in the spirit of St. Francis, and special music, including some fun tunes in which everyone can join.  Organizers strongly encourage animal friends to be part of the celebration, and participants are invited to bring their pets (leashed or caged), a photo of a pet (whether alive or departed) or a stuffed animal representing a loved animal.  They will all be blessed during the service.
Donations will be given to the Windham County Humane Society, which for many decades has worked to ensure the safety and well-being of animals and their relationships with people through adoption, education, and promotion of animal welfare, and by striving to help pets and pet owners in need.
