Big brothers, sisters sought
WILMINGTON-With support from the Deerfield Valley Community Partnership and the Rotary Club of the Deerfield Valley, Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Vermont will be opening a mentoring program at Twin Valley Elementary School this fall.
They are looking for volunteers (“Bigs”) age 18-88 to mentor children (“Littles”) during their lunch and recess time once a week during the school year. Mentoring is a fun, yet meaningful way to help support youth in the community.
Evidence shows that children mentored in Big Brothers Big Sisters are 27% less likely to begin using alcohol; 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs; and 52% less likely to skip school.
Contact Charlotte Raine at (802) 689-0092, ext. 1, or charltotte@bbbsvt.org to learn how to enroll a child or volunteer.
