After several months, The Gathering Place expands to 24/7 home care

The Gathering Place senior center officially opened its doors to the community on June 2018. Former director Mary Fredette cut the ribbon. A plaque was also presented honoring Fredette’s work to make the center a reality for the valley.

DOVER- The Gathering Place, an adult services center with locations in Brattleboro and the Deerfield Valley, is now offering 24/7 home care for adults with special needs and their families.
Executive director Maggie Lewis says that home care is a logical extension of their mission at The Gathering Place, and although they have been serving adults in the day program, they know that families need help in the evenings and on weekends as well.  With this new offering people can arrange for care whenever they need it, 24/7. Lewis notes that home care services are available to anyone in the community, not just Gathering Place clients. Anyone can call them for help, and their mission is to serve everyone. That means being available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Lewis stresses that Gathering Place home caregivers are not medical providers, but companions and family assistants. They don’t provide nursing care but can provide support, companionship, and supervision for loved ones. Caregivers can also do light housekeeping, make tea or a simple meal, and  run local errands.  If someone is recently home from the hospital and needs a little support with activities of daily living, they can help.  Or, if a family needs someone to sit with a loved one overnight, they can do that, too.
All Gathering Place caregivers are expertly trained and vetted with a complete background check. For more information call (802) 254-6559.
