Chamber Gala honors business owners and community members

WILMINGTON - On Monday, December 5, the Southern Vermont Chamber of Commerce, joined by the Deerfield Valley business community, celebrated the close of 2022 with their annual Chamber Gala and Awards Ceremony at Haystack Golf Course’s Stack Restaurant.  
The event welcomed over 90 guests and was a unique opportunity to bring together the hard-working individuals whose businesses help make Deerfield Valley such an attractive and welcoming place to visit and live. Board president Charlie Foster kicked off the event, sharing an updated mission statement for the organization and introducing and thanking the board members and staff of the chamber for their dedication.
Executive director Bethaney LaClair also made remarks, expanding on the chamber’s work to reconnect and rebuild post-pandemic through several initiatives including a new membership structure and membership management system. Bothwill allow the chamber to meet the needs of businesses in a more personalized way, ensuring the chamber is doing whatever is needed to help local businesses succeed, explained LaClair. She continued, noting that the chamber was able to hold all five of their major events in 2022, partnering with over 60 businesses to attract more than 7,000 visitors to the area.
Celebrations continued with the announcement of the chamber’s annual awards recipients, recognizing individuals and businesses for their service and dedication to the Deerfield Valley community.
The Rising Star Award was presented to 1a Coffee Roasters owners Chrystal and Brian Holt; The Ralph & Verne Howe Community Service Award to Rotary Club of Deerfield Valley; the Chamber Business of the Year Award to Ratu’s Liquor & Market owners Christian Engel and Jennifer Betit-Engel; the Chamber Person of the Year Award to David Moulton, director of mountain operations at Mount Snow; and the Lifetime Achievement Award to Jerry and Sheila Osler, former owners of The Red Mill Inn.
Celebrations continued into the evening with conversation and dancing to music performed by Logan Boyd.
