Horse rescue facility serves a big need

A volunteer at Gerda’s Equine Rescue nuzzles a rescued horse.

WEST TOWNSHEND- Gerda’s Equine Rescue started as a small animal rescue in Port Jefferson, Long Island, NY.  Since then Gerda moved to West Townshend, and has saved  over 1,000 horses.   In the last 15 months GER has saved 23 horses.
Unfortunately, horses are acquired to serve a need whether for a child to ride, to race for money or to breed, and once they have served their purpose they are often thrown away and end up in a journey leading to their death. GER effort runs on donations and volunteers.
