Volunteers sought to help those with serious illness
WINDHAM COUNTY- The Serious Illness Program was created by Brattleboro Area Hospice to offer support, solace, and assistance to people going through a life-altering serious illness that may or may not carry a terminal prognosis. Volunteer training will begin in April. This is an excellent opportunity to work with clients who are learning to live with and thrive during the changes a serious illness brings. SIP volunteers can help in various ways. They can spend time one-on-one with SIP participants or facilitate one of the very popular support groups.
The peer support groups are places where people can get together and openly share their experiences with others who truly understand. They offer a safe space to share personal experiences, feelings, and coping strategies and allow for shared learning. Volunteers are vital to the peer support group experience, helping create the space for sharing.
Applications for the training are now being accepted. To apply visit https://brattleborohospice.org. No experience is needed, and space is limited. They ask for a $40 contribution to cover the cost of materials. Scholarships are available.
