WARDSBORO- The Wardsboro Public Library announces Ely Porter as artist of the month for January. Porter is a self-taught artist who uses pen, ink, acrylics, and whatever is at hand to create what can be described as modern psychedelic illustrations. Heavily influenced by music, esoteric languages, and symbols, his signature is always done in the runes of JRR Tolkien.
Born in 1981 in Manitoba, Canada, he has been drawing since he could hold a pencil. Porter currently lives in Wardsboro.
He has done commissioned work for the Massachusetts-based band Watercure and did design work for Wicked Good Cookies. Porter’s work is shown in the Artrageus1 collective gallery in Brattleboro and in private collections, barns, and libraries in the United States and Canada. He has been exploring collaborative work including a deck of playing cards. Porter’s art will be on display at the library at 170 Main Street, during the month of January.
