Art collection gains new painter

painter Gianna Robinson

NEWFANE- Rock River Artists, a collaborative showcasing a wide range of fine art and craft, has announced the addition of Newfane painter Gianna Robinson into their juried collective. As the RRA gears up for its 28th Open Studio Tour July 18-19, Robinson is in high production mode.
The bulk of Robinson’s work, almost exclusively in oil, is representational landscape. Living in Vermont has inspired Robinson’s artmaking. Kayaking on a quiet lake, snowshoeing, and hiking all inspire her as she feels a compulsory urge to express how nature makes her feel.
A 1988 graduate of Leland & Gray and an alumna of Smith College’s Ada Comstock program (AC06), Robinson reflects on growing up in an artistic family, a commune, in fact, surrounded by art and artists which had become an integral part of daily life and being. Robinson’s mother, thread-on-fabric artist Deidre Scherer, would encourage her to participate in extracurricular art programs and workshops.  One of her most influential role models was Robinson’s grandfather, Fred Scherer.
The Rock River Artists is a Newfane/Williamsville/South Newfane collective of nearly 20 artists who open their studios each summer to locals and visitors from well beyond the region.  Robinson feels blessed and excited to be invited.
Robinson’s work can be seen on ample display at the I-91 Guilford Welcome Center through March, on Facebook, and July 18 and 19 on the Rock River Artists’ Tour. Check out rockriverartists.com.
