Art classes for everyone

River Gallery School offers sequencing workshops as a staff wellness activity. Sequencing is a highly accessible approach to painting, steeped in mindfulness and flow states. The Farm School staff recently came to RGS to do a workshop, led by David Graham.

BRATTLEBORO- For nearly four and a half decades, River Gallery School has been a home of art. A home a stranger might pass, feel compelled to enter and brush the dust from the hidden spaces of the mind. A place where one might explore deeper ways of being human, for there is nothing more human than art. This is worth remembering, worth treasuring. There’s magic in that. All year through, this is a home both for those who make their living holding a brush, and for those who’ve never held one, but want to.
Children’s classes are still an important part of the school’s curriculum. There’s a studio for tots, three for children, and another for teens. In studio classes, students may play with a variety of media, be it sculpture, printmaking, painting or others, always in an atmosphere where following one’s imagination and taking chances rewarded. There is also a vacation week art camp in which 6- to 12-year-olds may drop in or take the full week.
The school offers a series of short classes for the month of January. This is a wonderful way to reacquaint an old passion or to have a go at a new medium. Painterly Prints could be the class. Birds and Botanicals and Block Printing on Fabric are other possibilities, or Color Mixing might be the cup of tea.
For adults and teens, there are a number of classes in an impressive variety of media, all taught by working artists. If painting is to your taste, there’s Intro to Oil Painting, Adult Studio, Exploring Watercolor, and various workshops. There are classes in printmaking, encaustics, and drawing.
