MARLBORO- Volitia “Litty” W. Elliott, 82, a resident of Higley Hill Road in West Marlboro, died Monday, January 15, at Thompson House Nursing Home in Brattleboro. She was born in Marlboro on September 28, 1935, the daughter of the late Harold and Alice (Snow) Whitney.

Mrs. Elliott attended local schools, graduating from Wilmington High School as class valedictorian in 1953. She worked as a bookkeeper in her husband’s business for many years. She was a former Marlboro town treasurer and school director.

Mrs. Elliott and her husband Bob were couples in the Green Mountain Squares Dancing Club for years. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, and traveling, especially to the beach and the ocean. She and her husband traveled to Alaska for their 50th wedding anniversary. She enjoyed listening to the sounds of the Irish tenor David O’Donnell and cherished times spent with her family.

She is survived by her husband, Bob Elliott, of West Marlboro, whom she married at the Marlboro Meeting House June 28, 1953; children, Robert Elliott and his wife MaryAnn, of Orlando, FL, David Elliott and his friend Lisa, of Marlboro, and Melinda Coombs and her husband Bill, of Jacksonville; her sister, Margaret Crafts, of Springfield, MA; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Katherine Dix, in 2012, and her brother Harold Whitney Jr., in 2017. Graveside funeral services will be announced later in the spring.

Visiting hours will be held Friday, January 19, at Covey, Allen & Shea Funeral Home, 44 East Main Street, Wilmington, from 5 to 7 pm. Paul L. Jones

LYNCHBURG, VA- Paul L. Jones, 78, died on Wednesday January 10, surrounded by his family.

Mr. Jones was born on March 23, 1939, in Brattleboro, VT, son of the late Clyde and Olive Jones.

Mr. Jones was a retired heavy machine operator for the town of Newfane, VT, and was a former chief with the East Dover Volunteer Fire Department.

He loved to make people smile. “He always had a great smile and a twinkle in his eye. If you saw his hat off to the side and his pipe on the other, look out he was going to ‘get’ you,” said Todd Lawley.

In addition to his wife Sylvia S. Jones, he is survived by three children: Jonathan and wife Jennifer, Linda Francois and husband Pierre, and Cyndy Carey. Survivors also include seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Brown.
