Last week, local businessman Bob Grinold sat down with the officers of Community Bank and proposed a joint donation to the DVCC. He pledged to give a $1,000 if the bank would match it. Community Bank, when they have extra money, will contribute to various local charitable causes; and they agreed to do that in this case.
Today I was awarded two checks for $1,000 each to help our in our efforts to provide fuel for those in need within the Deerfield Valley. This was especially welcome in view of the extra burdens this cold snap has imposed on household budgets in the area.
During the period from December 20 to December 30, the DVCC spent just short of $16,000 on various types of heating material in the valley.
We can only hope that the winter does not continue like this, as so many of our neighbors cannot sustain these kinds of cash outlays just to keep their homes warm.
On behalf of many families in the valley, I want to thank both Mr. Grinold and Community Bank for their well-timed generosity.
