Mr. Booker was born one of twins in Turners Falls, MA, April 28, 1960, to Eloise (Jones) (Derby) and Alton Booker, of Halifax. He attended schools in Halifax and Whitingham. He worked for a short time at a fast food restaurant in Kingfisher, OK. Returning to Vermont, he met and married Georgia Boyd, of Brattleboro, in 1978. They made their home in Brattleboro and later in Halifax. They had one son. After a failed marriage, Mr. Booker later met up with Tina Valentine, of Wardsboro. She had three daughters. Brent and Tina moved to Springfield and raised four more children. There he worked as a short order cook at Howard Johnson’s until his health became more of a factor. After a long residency in Springfield he moved to Jacksonville.
Mr. Booker loved cooking, playing video games, making new friends on Facebook, and for a short time enjoyed playing the guitar.
Mr. Booker leaves three sons, Elton, of Boston, MA, Brent Jr., of Springfield, and Daniel, of Jacksonville; four daughters, Jessica, of Woodstock, Stacey (Booker) Springfield, of Colorado, Amanda, of Brattleboro, and Autumn, of Colorado; one sister, Emma Lazelle (Ray), of Halifax; two brothers, Leonard Derby (Linda), of Halifax, and Eugene Booker (June), of Brattleboro. He also leaves 16 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides his father in 1971 and his mother in 1986, he was preceded in death by his daughter Amber Hazelton, in 1994; two sisters, Donna (Derby) Pierce in 2001, and his twin Beverly Jean in 2007, and his brother, Tony, in infancy in 1964.
Cremation and a celebration of his life was conducted by Mahar & Sons Funeral Home, of Bennington, on November 2, attended mainly by relatives. Burial will take place in the spring near his twin sister in St. Mary’s Oakland Cemetery in Springfield. Date and time will be announced at a later date.
