Previously, the competition was open to only high school students in their junior and senior years who would be continuing their musical education beyond high school. This year, in celebration of the 40th anniversary, auditions are open to all high school students.
The scholarship monies can be used for anything related to musical education, whether it is updated equipment, music books or scores, or to pay for lessons.
Past scholarship winners have gone on to perform in their own bands, with large ensembles, and have even performed on Broadway. This year they have adjusted the scholarship to be given to one winner in the sum of $1,000. They encourage any student in high school who loves music and has a talent and desire to continue their education in music to submit an application to audition.
Five professional musical judges will select the winner this year, including, BCCS Choral Director Cailin Marcel Manson, BCCS Aaccompanist Matt Edwards, Hugh Keelan, Ken Olsson, and June Olsson. Deadline for submission is October 7. The auditions will be held October 20, at 6:30 pm, Second Congregational Church, Hill Street.
The venue is handicap accessible. Students, educators or parents interested in more information can email BCCSsingers@gmail.com. For more information about the BCCS and its concerts visit bccsmusic.wordpress.com.
