TOWNSHEND- A man and woman are both dead after a shooting at a Grafton Road residence at about 5:30 pm on Wednesday, August 20. According to police, 911 dispatchers received a call for help at 5:30 pm. While the caller was on the phone, dispatchers heard when they believed to be gunshots before the call ended abruptly.

State police from the Brattleboro barracks responded, and arrived to find a man outside of the house dead of a gunshot wound. A woman was found inside the house, unresponsive, also with a gunshot wound. She was transported to Grace Cottage Hospital and airlifted to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center where she later died.

Police have declined to make the identity of the victims public pending notification of relatives. Although police haven’t publicly identified any suspect or announced any arrests in the shootings, they say the initial investigation suggests there is “no known threat to public safety.”

Detectives from the Vermont Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Vermont State Police Crime Scene Search Team have been tasked with investigating the shootings.
