WILMINGTON- Bartleby’s Books will host an event with science fiction authors Brian Staveley and James Cambias on Saturday, February 15, at 3 pm. The two authors will read from their novels, host a question and answer session, and sign copies of their books.

Staveley has been a high school teacher, a poet, and an adventure-racer. He lives in Marlboro with his family. “The Emperor’s Blades” is his first novel. This debut epic fantasy begins the “Chronicle of the Unhewn Throne” and embarks on an exciting saga of magic, mayhem, and marvels that fans of Brandon Sanderson, Patrick Rothfuss, and George R. R. Martin will love. Winding through the stories of Adare, Kaden, and Valyn is a fantastically imagined system of magic and religion played out over a lush and exotic third-world landscape. Brian Staveley is the new voice-to-watch in the epic fantasy genre and this novel will sweep the reader away into a world of danger and excitement.

Cambias has been writing science fiction since his teens, but his first professional sale came in 2000, when his short story, “A Diagram of Rapture,” appeared in the Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction. Since then he has published 19 short stories in F&SF, Shimmer, and several original anthologies. In 2001 he was nominated for the John W. Campbell Award for best new writer. “A Darkling Sea” is his first novel. This book is an exciting and loving return to the classic sci-fi trope of space exploration and alien encounters. Fans of Star Trek will delight in the respect given to the scientific method and attention to detail when imagining the potential consequences and realities of extra-terrestrial contact. With genuine characters (both human and otherwise) and action not overwrought by exaggeration, this is a clean, hard SF standalone novel that is sure to impress and entertain.
