BENNINGTON- Decorating at the Bennington Museum is being planned and will be underway soon for the museum’s most anticipated and celebrated fundraiser of the year, the annual Festival of Trees. Going into its 17th year, from November 29 through December 30, the museum is pleased to present a community created exhibit of uniquely designed and decorated holiday trees, each in a beautiful, and sometimes whimsical, vignette. This year, the designers and creators of the vignettes were welcomed into the museum where they each selected an item from the museum’s collection that is rarely on exhibit. With over 60,000 items in the museum’s collection, these ‘hidden gems’ will become the centerpiece and inspiration of each vignette.

This year’s theme “Hidden Gems,” invited local businesses, nonprofit and service organizations in Bennington and surrounding communities to explore their creativity as they designed and created their vignettes, with over 20 being created for the entire family to enjoy. Some of the galleries will also be adorned with the museum’s traditional trees. Added to these are the tabletop trees, decorated by elementary school classes from Bennington and surrounding communities.

Family Day and Children’s Shopping Day will be Saturday, December 7, from 10 am to 5 pm. Be among the first to see the vignettes that fill the changing exhibition galleries, and enjoy the museum while it is all dressed up for the holiday season. Admission to the museum is $3 for everyone (even Santa) on Family Day. Any child that brings a personal care item for an adult or child is admitted at no charge. (The discount applies to those under 18 only, but adults are welcome to bring a donation too.) This year these items will be going to BROC in Bennington – Community Action in Southwestern Vermont since 1947.

Enjoy craft activities and more. Visit with Santa from 1 to 4 pm. Enjoy a gallery hunt, crafts, and more. Some activities require a small additional fee, up to $3, but many are free.

There is also the Children’s Shopping Boutique. Thanks to the donations of friends of the museum, we are pleased to offer this special shopping experience, just for kids. Children, ages 4 to 12, are invited to do their holiday shopping with us. Shoppers’ Helpers will be on hand to help children pick out presents for their friends and family members. Gifts range in price from $1 to $7. Free gift-wrapping and gift tags are included.

The Bennington Museum hosts its 17th annual Festival of Trees Gala on Saturday, December 14, from 7 to 10 pm. After sharing the excitement of finding the hidden gems in the vignettes, let it continue at the Holiday Gala. Joining us with beautiful holiday music are the Mount Anthony Union High School Chamber Chorus and Catbird Trio. All the exquisitely decorated galleries of the museum will be open for you to enjoy.

Tickets for the Gala are $65 per person, but if reserve and paid for by December 2, the price is $50. Tickets may be purchased by calling the museum at (802) 447-1571. For more information visit www.benningtonmuseum.org or call (802) 447-1571.
