To the Editor,

The Hungry Lion Bike Tour, sponsored by the Whitingham-Halifax Lions Club, took place on September 28, with 44 riders exploring our beautiful area, and would not have been the success it was without the support of so many members of the community and our local businesses. A special thanks goes out to The Richards Group as the 2013 Rest Stop Sponsor. Additionally, we appreciate the generosity of our prize sponsors, which included artist Ann Coleman, Bartleby’s Books, Bicycles Unlimited, Equipe Sport, First Trax, Folly Foods, Haystack Golf, Hogback Mountain Gift Shop, Jacksonville Store, Jezebels, Last Chair, Timber Creek Cross Country Ski Center, Timber Creek Sugarhouse Fitness Center, Shearer Hill B&B, Sprague, Sprague & Son Sugarhouse, and Valley Fitness. As usual, Mount Snow was also generous with contributions for skiing, golf, and retail. And thank you to Sally Gore for allowing us to advertise in her great space in Wilmington and to Patience Merriman for her creative work on our promotional video.

Congratulations and thanks goes to our top five fundraisers, Joe Specht, Leslie Fraser, Mark Hanna, Shelley Goldfarb, and Crista Gannon, who collectively brought in nearly $5,000 in donations. Much appreciation goes out to the many volunteers, both from the Lions Club and the community, who helped to make this a special day for an important cause.

The proceeds from the Hungry Lion Bike Tour will support the Holiday Food Basket Program and other Lions’ initiatives.

The Deerfield Valley truly is a place where community matters. Thank you!

The Hungry Lion Bike Tour Committee: Joe Specht, Mark Hanna, Nancy Caldwell, and Julie Muller
