WEST DOVER-Since 2009, Mount Snow has teamed up with Red Bull for the Butter Cup snowboard competition, but this year, Red Bull is bringing something bigger, with four wheels.

On Friday, February 15, champion off-road racer Ricky Johnson will attempt to climb the slopes of Mount Snow in a short-course Pro4 racing truck. The truck is specially designed to handle summertime off-road speedways, but has yet to face a challenge with the winter elements and gravity of the Mount Snow slopes.

The truck features specially designed spiked tires that will help Johnson navigate the figure eight hill-cross course built by Snow Park Technologies. The course begins just above the base area on Charlie’s Chase and crosses Exhibition. The track will then take Johnson up Yard Sale’s super-steep incline to Lower Exhibition, and bang a left at Somerset Road onto Ego Alley, and back down Lower Exhibition. Johnson will be making multiple runs throughout the day, and the truck will be on display when it’s not being ripped through the snow.

Mount Snow communications manager David Meeker says the course will also feature jumps, and have spots along the trail that are at a safe distance for spectators.

“This is the first big Red Bull event we’ve done, and our relationship with Red Bull has been getting more and more positive,” said Meeker. “They’ve identified Mount Snow as a place where they’d like to have this occur and we’re really pumped about it, because, as we know, when Red Bull does something, they don’t do it small.”

The event is free to the public and begins at 10 am.
