GREENFIELD, MA- The Arts Block is presenting a New Year’s Eve Extravaganza with several of the area’s top musical performers. Valley legend John Sheldon & Blue Streak will host the show, which also features vocalists Samirah Evans and Moonlight Davis, saxophonist Joe Roderick, singer/songwriter Daniel Kasnitz, and dancer Dakini Borealis.

Sheldon is an Arts Block favorite with international credentials. A guitar prodigy who was working professionally at age 14, including a stint as Van Morrison’s lead guitarist at 17, Sheldon has gone on to write hundreds of songs, including “September Grass,” which appeared on a platinum album by James Taylor. Sheldon has also composed for film and theater and conducted workshops in songwriting and composition.

Evans has been thrilling audiences in the Northeast since moving from New Orleans to New England. Her repertoire runs the gamut from raunchy blues to jazz smooth as silk. She recently released her third CD, “Hot Club,” with her band, Samirah Evans and Her Handsome Devils. Evans created and hosts the music series “Ladies in Jazz” at the Arts Block. Evans has toured Europe, Asia, and North and South America as a headliner, and shared stages with legendary artists from B.B. King and James Brown to New Orleans’ Queen of Soul Irma Thomas.

Moonlight Davis has been singing gospel music since age 4 when he stood up on the offering table and sang the Lord’s Prayer. He has opened for the Wynans, conducted gospel choirs, and sung in churches all over the East Coast. He plays keyboards and hand drums, having trained with Babtunde Olatunji. He has shared the stage with the legendary Billy Preston, Evelyn Harris of Sweet Honey in the Rock, and local musical luminaries including Erik Lawrence, David Wertman, Derrik Jordan, Vishnu Wood, and Bob Weiner.

Roderick has worked in Sheldon’s band “Blue Streak” for many years. Roderick channels a wealth of rock, soul, jazz, and blues through his tenor saxophone, harmonicas, and vocals. An accomplished songwriter himself, Roderick brings intense heart and soul to his music, and is the perfect melodic foil for Sheldon.

Borealis is an improvisational movement artist who appears in the form of live, feminine sculpture to help render more visible the unseen. Music, nature, emotion, and energy are her muses. She has performed with acts such as Mawwal, Planetoid, Black Pyramid, Tony Vacca, and Jim Matus; danced for local electronic music nights such as Fluid and for Extremos: The Mysterious Floating Nightclub; worked with artists such as Tai Dang, Edith Stephen, Jeff Derose, and Karen Dolmanisth; and singlehandedly brought the art of “go-go” dancing back to NYC in the early ’90s at clubs such as the world-famous Limelight.

Kasnitz is a composer, multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, audio engineer/producer, and recording studio owner. He has extensive experience in the music technology field, working with leading companies such at MOTU, Sweetwater, and Røde. Kasnitz is a regular on the southern Vermont music scene.

Local brewers Lefty’s Brewing Company will be bringing in their boutique beers. Delicious Thai treats will be available from Hattapon’s Kitchen. The show begins at 8 pm. Admission is only $20.13 online, or $25 at the door. For more information, directions, and to purchase tickets visit theartsblock.com.
