Have you noticed this fall that Historic Memorial Hall has hosted some interesting, wonderful community events? During the Friday night Village Stroll at the Vermont Wine and Harvest Festival, there was an overflowing crowd for the wine tasting/food pairing. The Pettee Library sponsored an informative drama presentation about Susan B. Anthony. “Elements of Urban Tap” by Magic Feet and “Circus Minimus, The One-Man Circus in a Suitcase” filled the hall with families. Jackson Productions launched their effort to bring well-known musicians to the hall with the energized Commander Cody Band. The Historical Societyof Wilmington, thanks to editing by Bob Edwards and The Student Network, recently packed the hall showing some 1930s old movies of the Deerfield Valley Fair and the ’38 hurricane.
Next on the lineup is the Deerfield Valley Quilt Show on Saturday, October 20, from 10 am to 5 pm. Jean Levitt from Wardsboro will be demonstrating the old technique of biscuit puff quilting by hand. In the 1980s, as a former Radio City Rockette, she created a large satin biscuit puff quilt containing signatures and dates of every Rockette who ever danced at Radio City, which she presented to the Radio City Corporation on its 50th anniversary. Sharon Shorey from Bennington will be demonstrating foundation piecing by machine. Numerous quilts from the historical society and quilts from local residents will be on display. And don’t forget to save the evening of Saturday, November 3, for a community contra/square dance with caller Andy Davis.
When you attend an event at Historic Memorial Hall, be sure to sign up to become a volunteer. Please remember that we are creating our own “friends’” list and that we are not associated with the organization that had previously rented Memorial Hall.
Check us out on Facebook at www.facebook.com/HistoricMemorialHall. It’s gratifying to see so many different events fill our community’s unique performance/meeting space owned by the taxpayers of Wilmington.
Hope you will keep supporting our efforts.
