Initiated in 2008 by seniors Karlie Kauffeld and Claire Zukas, SPAE is in its fifth summer offering workshops in music, design, dance, lighting, and makeup. After-camp workshops have been offered for the first time this year in advanced acting, 3-D design, vocal delivery, instrumentation, and poetry.
The program, managed by Leland & Gray theater director Ann Landenberger and Players’ assistant producer Abby Hadden, is directed by Kauffeld and Zukas with Johnny Pozzi, Leland & Gray ’10, and Melissa Soule, Leland & Gray ‘11. Workshop leaders include camp staff as well as music director Ron Kelley, Cassidy Anderson, and Michaela Tietz, both Leland & Gray ‘11. Maddi Etman, Maezie Cramp, Patrick Hauer, Jesse Cannella, Rachael Turner, and Nathaniel vanOsdol are counselors in training.
The SPAE 2012 production is “The Adventures of Robin Hood,” written by Kauffeld, a music education major at University of Vermont; Zukas, a studio art and marketing major at Manhattanville College, and Pozzi, entering Fordham University’s acting program in the fall. Kauffeld is music director; Zukas and Pozzi have designed the production. Direction has been shared by all staff and various campers have helped with specific aspects of production. The performance incorporates skills in voice, design, lighting, movement, and production that have been introduced in the program.
