BRATTLEBORO- On Friday, July 13, at 8 pm, celebrated jazz vocalist and composer Peter Eldridge will be performing in concert, followed by an afternoon long master class starting at 12 on Saturday, July 14, at The Open Music Collective.

Eldridge has released four solo recordings in addition to his 20-years of success as a member and co-founder of New York Voices, a two-time Grammy-winning jazz vocal ensemble.

Downbeat praises his voice, calling it a “strong, far-ranging voice ... hauntingly wistful.”

In the workshop, Eldridge will focus on vocal technique – from warm-ups to key signatures to musicality.

This master class will involve individual performances and critique from someone who has experience as a top performer and great educator.

In addition to writing, performing, and/or producing his own music, Eldridge is among the faculty of the Manhattan School of Music, teaching jazz voice. He has also worked with other acclaimed artists such as Nancy Wilson, Joshua Redman, Bobby McFerrin, Patti Austin, Ray Brown, and the Count Basie Band.

JazzTimes called Eldridge’s music “perennially classy.” Allmusicguide.com says that Eldridge is “in the celebrated tradition of melodic poets, most famously represented by such disparate voices as Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison and Steely Dan – singer/songwriters who create catchy, beautiful tunes with insightful lyrics that are both personal and universal.”

Cost of the concert is $10, included in the price of the workshop, which is $60 for adults and $45 for students, Workshop participants are encouraged to preregister
