STRATTON– Alongside snow sport greats like Lindsay Vonn, Kelly Clark, and Hannah Kearney, the US Ski and Snowboard Association honored Stratton Mountain Resort with the Paul Bacon Award recently in Park City, UT.

The award recognizes Stratton for its success in hosting this spring’s US Freestyle Championships. Stratton was put to the test when late March brought unseasonably warm weather, forcing resort crews to take radical measures to move and preserve the snow needed for the professional-grade mogul and aerial features. That included everything from farming snow to packing the moguls with dry ice, a unique effort for a resort whose season typically lasts well into April.

“We didn’t get any help from Mother Nature, that’s for sure,” said Mike Quinn, Stratton’s Vice President of Operations. “But what we do have is a team of dedicated and resourceful people who did everything they could to make the event a safe and exciting competition.”
