WILMINGTON- The Pennsylvania Youth Chorale, a community children’s choir from the Philadelphia area, will perform a concert in Memorial Hall on Wednesday, June 27, at 7:30 pm. A select touring ensemble of 17 choristers from the 50-member chorale will visit the Mount Snow area as part of a 10-day concert tour. The children will also give concerts in Lake Luzerne, NY, Somerville, NJ, and Montreal, where the ensemble will perform in an International Choral Festival.

This year the PYC is celebrating its 35th anniversary. Over the years, the choir has achieved many outstanding accomplishments, including three performances in Carnegie Hall, under internationally recognized conductors and several world premiers by American composers. The choir has performed many major works such as Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” with the Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra at the Kimmel Center, and Benjamin Britten’s “St. Nicholas Cantata” with the Temple University orchestra and choir, both in Philadelphia.

The concert program, entitled “Songs Without Borders,” will take the audience on a musical journey from New York and the sounds of Broadway (“New York, New York,” “Do Re Mi”) to the neighbors in Canada and then to more distant shores in Europe, Africa, South America, and the Middle East. The program ends back home with songs by Pennsylvania composer Nancy Gifford and the well known “What A Wonderful World.” In addition to the works of major composers Gabriel Faure and Eleanor Daley, the children will also perform folk songs in French, Portugese, Hebrew, and Swahili.

Admission is a donation to the Wilmington Flood Relief. Contact (215) 782-3527 or evfsing@comcast.net for more information.
