The article in the newspapers about some of our town constables losing their authority speaks volumes about bureaucratic red tape here in little Vermont. The politicians in Montpelier can’t figure out how to comply with a bill they passed themselves, mandating that all constables be trained as police officers is the sticking point because no one will train them. Really? Websters dictionary defines “constable” as a “policeman.” So, that means they already are qualified policemen.
We need our constables as they know their area, the people, and most importantly the trouble makers.
