The Wildcat Hiking Club takes a break on the Long Trail.
BONDVILLE- In 2009, students at The Mountain School at Winhall adopted a 1.6-mile wilderness stretch of the Long Trail, the oldest long distance hiking trail in the United States. They are responsible for keeping their section, from Mad Tom Notch to the summit of Styles Peak, clear and safe during the spring and fall months. In an effort to further their commitment to the physical well being of both its students and the trail, the school has established the Wildcat Hiking Club for students in grades three through six. They meet and hike the trail on Wednesdays from 3:45 until 5:30 pm. The club’s inaugural outing was led by MSW athletic assistant and Appalachian Trail through-hiker Brendan Curry, who shared some of his considerable hiking knowledge with the students.
