Time to modernize process

To the Editor:

I was disappointed to hear the news that Mount Snow had lost the Dew Tour for 2011. This was a great event for the valley and brought national attention to our area. What is even more frustrating is the fact that Act 250 had an effect on Mount Snow’s decision not to go forward with building a larger halfpipe to keep the Dew Tour here. With Mount Snow currently going through the glacial process of obtaining an Act 250 permit to build a snowmaking lake (The West Lake project),

I cannot blame them for not wanting to take on this additional permit process. Act 250 is working against the businesses in our state when economic development projects are not even considered because of this cumbersome legislation. Act 250 is over 30 years old and its process needs to modernize so we can experience economic growth while keeping our state’s values and traditions.
